What is your response to the text you just read?
The text that I chose to read is Batman Killing the Joker. Going into this reading, I didn't really know what to expect because Batman is supposed to have a rule set for himself to not kill people, so seeing the title I was kind of taken aback. And even after reading the story I'm still a bit confused about the title of it since neither of them died in the end. It only ended with the both of them laughing together about a joke that the Joker told, the joke seems to be symbolic of the relationship that Batman and Joker have come to at this point. Joker has made the leap to insanity and he only just has to wait for Batman to take the leap after him, but he won't do it on Joker's terms since he doesn't trust him and he considers himself to be sane.
What connections did you make with the story that you read? Discuss the elements with which you were able to connect.
I found it pretty hard to connect with this story since it was mostly about the search for Joker and about his tragic backstory, but I guess if I had to say that something stood out to me it's when Joker makes a deal with the mob to make money for his family but then even though he loses the reason for doing it in the first place he still has to go through with it. While I've never had that specifically happen to me, I've been in situations where I agree on something and then the situation changes in a bad way but I still have to go through with it.
What changes would you make to adapt this story into another medium? What medium would you choose, and what changes would you make?
If I were to adapt this into a different medium, then I would say that judging from the success of the recent Joker movie, the most successful way to change it is to make it into a movie. A change I would make to make it formatted better for a film is to add more length to the scene where the Joker tortures Jim and the part where he is committing a crime as the red hood.
